Behind the name Alvilda

Alvilda is a combination of two old Norse words. the word ''alf'' means ''fairy/fairy'' and ''hildr'' means ''fight/warrior'' so Alvilda simply means fairy warriors. The name was given to a legendary Danish princess who became a pirate and she makes the Danish waters unsafe. She later becomes Queen of Denmark. 

Princess Alvilda's story and the meaning of the name represent the publisher Alvilda and their adventurous books very well. The books encourage learning, creativity, and adventure. 

The publisher Alvilda was founded in 2009 and it is a sister publisher of Forlaget Modtryk that has published books for more than 50 years. The office of Alvilda is in Copenhagen.
