The story behind GANT
GANT was officially founded in 1949. Bernard Gantmacher first started creating jerseys for other companies and he was extremely skilled. When his sons returned home after serving in World War II, the United States had changed and both sons had their father's sense of style and enterprise. Together with their father, they decided to start producing shirts under their own brand.
Since its start, GANT has been producing many distinctive and unique shirts. The company is part of America's history of menswear. GANT also helped create the famous 'ivy league' style.
In the 1950s, there were nothing but blue and white shirts on the market. This was changed by GANT when they introduced shirts of different colours as well as shirts that were striped and checkered.
In the 1960s, GANT began to expand its range and in 1971 they released the first collection of American sportswear that featured ties, trousers, and rugby shirts.
