In 1969, Alan Green and John Law started making their own surf shorts in the garage after they found a niché on the market. Together they wanted to build a brand that stood for innovation, pride, trust, and that has unlimited potential.
Their surf shorts quickly became extremely popular and there was a great demand for the shorts. It did not take long before you could buy Quiksilver anywhere in Australia and all of the 70's best surfers wore quiksilver surf shorts.
The name Quiksilver was created when Alan Green's wife Barbara read a novel and found the word "Quiksilver". Quiksilver is described as somewhat fluid, adaptable, and transformative which she thought sounded appropriate in relation to what Alan was trying to create through the company. The word Quiksilver comes from the old adage of turning base metals into gold.
